First visit to Lily of the Valley, South Africa
Health needs assessment for building clinic to serve the needs of the local community
Attending to the health needs of the children at Lily of the Valley

2006

TWOWEEKS is formed and a second trip to Lily of the Valley is undertaken
Assisted and advised on children’s educational needs
Assisted with the welfare and education of staff providing care for the children at Lily of the Valley
Helped with administration work in the health

Productive play & activities with the children to encourage development
Physiotherapy and occupational therapy treatment for children with special needs. Provision of specialist equipment and implementation of ongoing treatment programs
Health reviews of the staff and children
Further assessment for the needs and of the local community in preparation for the building of the health clinic
HIV & AIDS counselling and education for teenagers

2007

TWOWEEKS’ involvement with the local community grows
Construction of the health clinic at Lily of the Valley is completed
Organised equipment donated to the clinic and set up the pharmacy there

Health reviews of the children & staff at Lily of the Valley
Advised on IT needs and assisted with classes for the local community

2008

TWOWEEKS Netherlands is formed & TWOWEEKS is approached by the GCM Foundation to assist with a project
Further trips occur to Lily of the Valley
The health clinic opens at Lily of the Valley
Review of clinic equipment and services
Workshops for the teenagers are undertaken to address specific needs

Assisted with gardening project and preschool & nursery activities
Assisted with various activities at a school in the township- including teaching, administrative tasks and identified future needs
The Voluntary Counselling & Testing (VCT) program is set up, an HIV & AIDS testing program. TWOWEEKS helped with training staff. Counsellors go into the local community to provide HIV & AIDS education

2009

TWOWEEKS is registered as a UK charity. There is a further trip to Lily of the Valley and visit to Shakajipoor
Attended to health needs of the children
Initial social work assessment identified needs of carers and a review of support systems
Preparation of children and carers prior to adoption and fostering

Community visits with healthcare team, encompassing health promotion & screening and care
First aid training for staff and carers

2010

Attended to health needs of the children
Health reviews of all the children at Lily of the Valley
Follow up visits to children who have been adopted or fostered from Lily of the Valley
Undertaken by volunteer social worker travelling with twoweeks and Lily of the valley staff

TWOWEEKS visits the community outreach clinic of Mdlovo for the first time and assesses patients there
Provision of dental treatment to the children at Lily & education provided to residents from the community of Mophela
Dental education given to house mothers looking after the children at Lily of the valley

2011

TWOWEEKS history timelineTWOWEEKS volunteers who are trained pharmacists undertake a wealth of activities at Lily of the Valley and in the community of Mophela & Sankontshe including:
Medication reviews for the Lily children taking regular medication for HIV/AIDS & TB
Medication reviews for patients in the community of Mophela & Sankontshe
Assist with at the rural outreach clinic in Mdlovo
Undertake training for the housemothers and other members of the team caring for the children at Lily
Review of medication interactions
Review of the pharmacy medication in the health clinic with particular attention to expired medication
Continuation of medical activities undertaken on previous trips
Planning and assessment for the introduction of an elective student program to begin in 2012
